Frances Arnold creates abstract, limited edition prints inspired by vast landscapes and urban architecture that playfully alter perception.
Arnold combines her love of drawing with the physicality of printmaking to convey a textured, pastel-like quality in her reductive screenprints. She is fascinated by convergence of multiple perspectives; shifting the eye between illusions of space and the material reality of ink and paper. Her subtle use of embossing to accentuate voids and colours playfully alters our perception of the image and materials.
Arnold’s recent series of prints explore the image in constant flux. Architectural lines and geometric forms hold textured, block colour. Conveying a feeling of immersion within the vast expanses of beach, sea and sky in the rural landscapes that inspired these prints. Her prints hold a fine balance between control and imperfection, containment and release.
