Helen Bulmer's inspiration comes from the shapes of fruit, flowers, plants and decorative pots, jugs and textiles.
Helen work's in linocut as she enjoy's the tactile process of carving the lino and the graphic nature of the resulting prints. She work's from drawings and then play's around with composition and colours until she arrives at an image she is happy with. Helen enjoy's the way the image develops from the original drawing as she interprets shapes and lines which then become simplified and stylised.
Helen likes the element of surprise during printmaking when she peels back the paper to see the image beneath. Very often the resulting prints may not be perfect, as a result of the hand made nature of the process, but this is what gives them their character.
