Born in Southampton in 1957, Roy now lives in London where he studied at Central School of Art. He became an associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) in 2009 and full member in 2013. He is a member of the Printmakers Council which he joined in 1981, being a committee member for twelve years and Treasurer for four. In June 2018 he was an artist in residence at Maelor Studios in Wales.
All his printmaking is concerned with landscape or how it is represented and ranges from the figurative to the abstract with a special interest in the borderline between the two. He's been making prints for four decades, with his own Albion press in his studio for the last two. Most of his prints are linocuts or wood engravings but sometimes include other elements.
